Supporting and Developing Storytelling Pathways for the future

Over the summer we were awarded an Arts Council of England grant to start working with partners, the sector and underrepresented voices in storytelling to ensure we have a strong sector in England for the future. We have already started making strong partnerships across the 4 UK Nations, and one thing that we have noticed is the urgent need for more joined up support and development in how we nurture more storytellers and representation.

Storytelling Pathways will be the seed for the start of us growing and amplifying underrepresented voices, including talent development, regional-national partnerships and supporting stronger career pathways.

To do this, we will be having open discussions, call outs, mentoring and dialogue, sharing opportunities and looking at creating specific programmes and residencies.

"We’re so grateful to Arts Council England for their support, and the storytellers we consulted in the lead up who helped us develop the project.  This short programme lets us take stock and look to the future, particularly around career development and income opportunities for artists. Our online forums will enable storytellers to share skills and knowledge with each other, and we will be networking with partners to create new opportunities.  There is a lot we can learn from looking at how other regions and countries support their storytellers, and we’re very excited about the chance to connect with more young, emerging and Global Majority storytellers, strengthening our communities overall,” said Naomi Wilds, Adverse Camber.

We are just at the start of this journey so watch this space as we share more over the next few weeks, how we will gather the storytelling sector together for listening, sharing and acting to develop storytelling.
